  15. <p>     DIED. Diana Vreeland, 80ish, doyen of the fashion world who
  16. chronicled haute couture for Harper's Bazaar and Vogue; in New
  17. York City. Widely quoted and respected, Vreeland promoted new
  18. designers and styles until her retirement as editor in chief at
  19. Vogue in 1971. As a consultant to the Metropolitan Museum of
  20. Art, she organized exhibitions on the history of fashion.
  21. Despite close identification with the industry, she once
  22. observed, "Elegance is innate...it has nothing to do with
  23. being well dressed."
